- Story Text: In the French film, "Voleur de Vie" (Stolen Life), shown at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday, drama, passion and heated intensity are "de rigeur".The story of the relationship of two sisters, directed by Yves Angelo, is set against the moody backdrop of stormy seas and a rambling house built on a graveyard.
French "Mission Impossible" actress Emmanuelle Beart, star of French hits "Manon des Sources", "Un Coeur en Hiver" and "Nelly and Monsieur Arnaud" lit up the Venice film festival, when she arrived to promote her new erotic French Film "Voleur De Vie" - Stolen Life.
She plays Alda, who lives on a remote island with her sister and niece.
Alda gives her body freely but never her feelings.
Olga, her elder sister, played by Sandrine Bonnaire is a recluse who oversees the household and her teenage daughter, Sigga.
In this house, memory and desire co-exist in a delicate balance, until Olga's illness upsets the equilibrium.
The film has an intellectual, literary feel.It is miles from Hollywood in its complete dedication to a study of complex characters.
But the plot is simple and there is no dialogue for more than half the film.
Beart says she is not interested in Hollywood-style movies but may move away from playing the intense French woman onto something a little lighter.
The Golden Lion will be awarded on September 13. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
