- Story Text: British rock band Ash have just completed a whirlwind mini-tour of the UK - playing four cities in just twenty-four hours.
Kicking off on Monday morning at the Virgin Megastore in London's Oxford Street, Ash were looking forward to a hard day of non-stop rock 'n' roll.
Their daunting itinery, four gigs in four cities in just twenty-four hours, began at 10am - an hour which most rock stars only see if they've been up all night.
But for Ash it was just the beginning of a long day and despite the early start the fans were out in force and ready to give the band a good start to their whistle-stop tour.
Ash have been building a steady following since they began life as a three-piece in Belfast five years ago.Playing twice at last years Glastonbury - they stepped in at the last minute to headline on the Sunday - didn't do them any harm either. Then they recruited a new member - Charlotte Hatherly - to back up frontman Tim Wheeler's blistering guitar sounds and add some backing vocals. After penning the title track of the acclaimed Ewan MacGregor/Cameron Diaz movie "A Life Less Ordinary" it was back to the studio to record their new album, "Nu-clear Sounds".
The album was released yesterday (October 5th) and what better way to promote it than playing a live gig in London....and Cardiff....and Edinburgh of course....and they can't leave out their hometown, Belfast.
So after blasting out a selection of tracks, new and old, in London, it was off to RAF Northolt to meet the specially decorated Ash tour plane to head off to Cardiff.
The conclusion of their flying visits came in Belfast, with a concert at midnight, followed by an all night record signing.
Unfortunately for the band they don't even get a day off - they'll be back in Wales to play Swansea on Tuesday night (October 6). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
