- Story Text: Classical music gets glamorous when Vanessa-Mae is in town. She's not just a platinum selling classical artist, she's taken on the pop world too and now she's branching out into movies - and all at the tender age of just twenty.
Famous for her raunchy image and prodigious talent, Vanessa-Mae has achieved more in her twenty years than most people achieve in a lifetime. She is marking her birthday (October 27) with the release of her new album on November 9.
Due to popular demand by her army of fans, the album features one of the most well-known pieces of classical music in the world, Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons".
But Vanessa-Mae is more that just a classical artist, her debut pop album "The Violin Player" brought her unique sound of techno-acoustic fusion to the ears of an enthusiastic audience - it was the most successful debut instrumental pop album ever, charting in over 25 countries.
She clearly delights in playing both types of music, and relishes the different challenges they each present. However, pursuing both genres simultaenously leads to a heavy workload.
She's almost constantly working - driven by her desire to champion the world of classical music at the same time as pushing back boundaries in the pop world.
And as if that's not enough, she's now made her mark on the film world. Her short film, a silent movie in which she stars as well as arranging and playing the soundtrack, can currrently be seen at cinemas all over the UK where it is screened before Disney's latest epic, "Mulan" (Incidentally, Vanessa-Mae also wrote the end-credit music for the animated adventure.) Vanessa-Mae claims that despite her amazing achievements, and her status as a child prodigy, growing up has been a remarkably normal experience, although certainly an exiting one.Just like her life so far, her twentieth birthday party at Cafe de Paris in London last night was an affair that most people of her age can only dream of. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
