- Story Text: Movie Star Brad Pitt was welcomed in Tokyo during the promotion of his latest film "Meet Joe Black" by the usual hoards of screaming fans.He however also got a welcome of another sort -- a typical Tokyo earthquake.
After many years at the top of his profession, Brad Pitt must be used to receiving the star treatment as well as being accustomed to making his fans' knees turn wobbly at the very sight of him.
However in Tokyo he didn't expect to be the one to be shaken about.
Late on Sunday night (November 8), Tokyo was hit by what is technically called a 'moderately strong' earthquake. There were no immediate reports of injury or damage, but Brad Pitt was certainly moved.
At a press conference on Monday (November 9) he said the quake, which measured 4.9 on the Richter scale, even reminded him of his home California.
However, he was also surprised by the number of fans that turned up on Sunday at the close of the Tokyo International Film Festival where his latest film "Meet Joe Black" was being premiered.
According to organisers nearly five thousand fans crammed the narrow streets in front of the theatre, packing themselves against the security barriers to catch a glimpse of his arrival.
Fans lucky enough to be inside the theatre were enthralled by the movie despite its lengthy three hour showing.
"Meet Joe Black" was conceived by Martin Brest many years ago after he saw the film "Death Takes a Holiday" and he's been working on doing a remake ever since.
In Brest's version, Death played by Brad Pitt, falls in love with Susan (Claire Forlani), a young doctor, who is the daughter of a wealthy entrpreneur (Anthony Hopkins).
Pitt said the movie was mainly about love and loss and the acceptance of both. His favourite part was the play of characters in the film's only dinner scene.
"Meet Joe Black", the film where Pitt portrays Death in the guise of a young man, opens next week in Japan and the United States. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
