- Story Text: The musical variety show used to be a great way for recording artists to get exposure, but with the dearth of such television programmes record labels are looking for new ideas."Motown Live" hosted by Robert Townsend, combines revered pop and R&B performers of yesterday with the up and comers of today.
The name Motown brings to mind a plethora of singers, songwriters and performers who flourished in the 1960's: Diana Ross and The Supremes, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, and Marvin Gaye just to mention a few.
PolyGram Television's new programme "Motown Live" borrows from that legacy by combining live performances from today's hot artists with the legendary performers of the music industry's past.
Hosted by actor/comedian Robert Townsend, the weekly show is geared to attract a diverse audience while catering to music lovers of all ages.Ricky Minor, longtime music director for singer Whitney Houston, provides the sounds and talent.Upcoming shows feature appearances by Mary J.Blige, Chaka Khan, Etta James, Celine Dion, Monica, Gloria Gaynor, The O'Jays, Gerald Levert, Bryan Adams, Hanson, Earth Wind and Fire, The Temptations, George Clinton, and Wyclef Jean.
Motown Live is a syndicated weekly series produced and distributed by PolyGram Television and sponsored by Phillips Electronics. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
