- Story Text: Pop idol Janet Jackson visited a children's home near Johannesburg in South Africa on Thursday, stretching out a warm hand to children desperately seeking love and affection.
SOS Children's Villages is the world's largest private child-care organisation. In South Africa, there are more than 650 orphaned and abandoned children living in the SOS Villages around the country.
Janet Jackson's visit to the Ennerdale Children's home just south of Johannesburg thrilled the hoards of youngsters clamouring to see her on a very rainy day.
Brightening up the day, Janet handed over a cheque for R100 000 (US$17,500) to the home which will go a long way to supporting the 150 children in their care.
The children range in age between 18 months and 21 years and stay at the village until they're independent.
Janet's older and equally famous brother, Michael, has also made donations to the SOS villages and has visited many of them throughout the world. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
