- Story Text: Cher brought Santa Monica to a standstill on Tuesday night (November 24).More than a thousand fans waited patiently in line for their idol to sign copies of her new book and album.
Cher was promoting her new album "Believe" and book "The First Time" at a book store in Santa Monica on Tuesday night. The line of fans waiting to have their copies autographed stretched all the way round the block, and hundreds more crammed into Borders Books & Music, content to glimpse her from the sidelines. When the singer/actor/director arrived, the crowd went crazy.
The new book "The First Time", which is dedicated to Sonny Bono, is a bare bones account of "firsts", from her first memory of her father, to her first kiss and the first time she had sex.The last chapter, about Sonnys' death and the funeral was, naturally, the hardest for her to write.
Cher, who once described her and Sonny as Siamese twins joined at the heart, has fond memories of the man she topped the charts with, but what she remembers most about him is "his sense of humour".
The decision to make "The Beat Goes On", a television movie about the pairs' life brings out the raw edge in Cher who dismisses it as a "horse and pony show hellbent on exploiting the facts"
Fans brought anything they could lay their hands on to be autographed, the book, the CD, even a car registration plate.
As for the lady herself, in their eyes "she's got class", "she's America", "she's done everything", "she's beautiful", and "she's still got her youth".One diehard fan took a leaf out of the singers book and cast aside his inhibitions to entertain the crowd with his version of "If I Could Turn Back Time".Even the media stood in line for autographs from the multi-talented Cher who's reinvented herself countless times over the years.
Just when everyone expected Cher to take a back seat she released a dance album "Believe" and it's already taken the European charts by storm. It doesn't stop there, her new movie "Tea With Mussolini" is due for release early next year. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
