- Story Text: Fashion Rio, Rio de Janeiro's fashion extravaganza, showed off it's celebrity glamour on Wednesday (January 12) when top model, Naomi Campbell, hit the Brazilian catwalks to model the TNG winter collection.
Campbell opened the show wearing a revealing, low-cut pink dress that left fashion enthusiasts gasping for more.
The stylist behind the brand, Tito Bessa Jr, based this year's collection on national historical and cultural references, and appeared at the end of the show with Campbell, who was immediately besieged backstage by journalists.
The well known British model refused to take any questions, and kept her comments to the event and the brand she was modeling for.
"Yes, I really do feel Brazilian," said Campbell.
Fashion Rio, a week of fashion shows from Brazil's top designers, continued on Thursday (January 13) with the winter collection from new designer Maria Fernanda Lucena.
The collection, heavily inspired by Brazilian fashion icon Zuzu Angel, included a mix of colours and patterns, with an elegant touch.
For spectator Alda Cristina Mota, the Maria Fernanda Lucena collection is a name to watch for in future fashion circles.
"Marvelous! Very pretty clothes, it's incredible, of an international standard," she said.
Some 100 models, 50 cameras, 350 security guards and 600 journalists and photographers will be working during the fashion week, which will cost approximately 5 million reales ($1,850,000).
Rio de Janeiro's fashion week, is expected to lure up to 80,000 spectators over the course of its 20 fashion shows, continues until Friday (January 14). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
