- Story Text: Anthony Edwards flew into London on Wednesday to attend the premiere of his new movie, 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'.
The American star, known to all as Dr.Mark Greene of 'ER', was joined by a host of stars to celebrate this British production that marks the return of Edwards to the big screen.
London's Leicester Square was a hive of excitement on Wednesday as crowds gathered to see the arrival of everyone's favourite doctor.
Anthony Edwards has taken off his operating gown and instead taken on the role of an American sports therapist trying to make a success of life in London.
When his track superstar - the Olympic 100-metre gold medalist, Linford Christie - fires him, things are not looking good...that is until he meets Suzanne...
'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' is a romantic comedy that is noticeably timed for the Valentine's Day audience. Many are saying it's a British 'Sleepless In Seattle' - chance meetings, lonely hearts finding one another...but it's got a bit more of a kick to it.Feelings become muddled as a result of a hypno-dentist who attempts to operate on the lady's mind as well as her teeth.
It was quite a decision for Anthony Edwards to make the film.Since his glory days as Tom Cruise's sidekick, 'Goose', in the Hollywood blockbuster 'Top Gun', Edwards has been noticeably absent from the big screen.
But television sets all over the world have been tuned in to the emergency room, where he performs surgery for an audience of millions. It's a drama that has had phenomenal success and managed the difficult feat in capturing the attention of British viewers as much as the American ones. But when offered the chance to star in the London-based film, Edwards jumped at the opportunity.
Not only is this his first film in a long time, it's also the first time Edwards has been cast in the role of romantic hero. It's a role that sits very easily with a man that always exudes a gentleness and warmth, whatever role he takes on.
The lady who captures his heart is the classically-trained British actress, Jenny Seagrove.Jenny is delighted with the finished product, but recognises that this is no epic, life-altering film, rather 'a really feel-good, warm-hearted film'.
The imagination, brains and everything else that goes into transforming a story on a piece of paper into a night at the cinema, can be attributed to British theatre producer, Bill Kenwright. At 52 years of age, he decided to leave the stage that has become his home and try something new.
The financial gamble this involved was massive, but Kenwright has no regrets. His passion and belief in the project managed to persuade Edwards instantly to do the movie, and also put a number of critically acclaimed actors of British theatre onto the big screen.Along with the screen writer Geoff Morrow and first-time director, Will Patterson, the team was complete.
The film's already received a great response at Cannes, and if the energy and enthusiasm behind the project are anything to go by, 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' looks set to be a hit at the box office.
