- Story Text: Capitol recording artist/guitarist Meredith Brooks recently recorded a new track for her upcoming album with special guests Queen Latifah and the student choir from Los Angeles' Crenshaw High School. The recording session was part of a mentoring program sponsored by the Mr.Holland's Opus Foundation.
Capitol recording artist and double-Grammy nominee, Meredith Brooks, has penned the songs for the follow-up to her multiplatinum solo debut, "Blurring the Edges." The new album will be called "Deconstruction" and once again, Brooks will play all the guitars on the record.
But she won't be the only one doing the vocals. As part of her long-time goal to establish her own mentoring program, she invited the choir from Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles to record a song with her.
The tune, "Lay Down" was recorded with special guest Queen Latifah at the venereted Capitol studios where legends like Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole once performed.
Brooks recently kicked off the Harmonix Mentoring Musicians Program, whose goal is to inspire children to study music by introducing them to the personal experiences of well-known musicians.
The program is in conjunction with the Mr.Holland's Opus Foundation, a nonprofit-making organisation concerned with preserving music education in schools across America.Brooks has counselled runaway teenagers, and the message in her music, be true to your inner purpose and don't give up - is of particular value to inner-city students. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
