- Story Text: Patricia Arquette is kicking up a storm and her heels in her new movie "Goodbye Lover".Roland Joffe directs this dark comedy which also stars Don Johnson, Dermot Mulroney, Mary-Louise Parker and Ellen Degeneres.
Nothing and no-one is quite as they seem in "Goodbye Lover".
Sandra Dunmore (Patricia Arquette) is beautiful, friendly and religious on the outside. But on the inside, she's greedy, ambitious and out for what she can get. She's also having an affair with her brother in law, Ben Dunmore (Don Johnson).
Sandra's husband, Jake (Dermot Mulroney) is an advertising executive who's hit the bottle and his career is going downhill fast.
Jake works at the advertising company, which has given his brother access to the good life he so desperately wants himself.Peggy Blaine (Mary-Louise Parker) is their shy, retiring, eager to please assistant.
All four characters have one thing in common, greed. Each is capable of manipulating, conniving and double-crossing anyone, including each other, to get what they want. And they want it all.
Rita Pompano (Ellen Degeneres) is a no nonsense detective who takes great delight in winding up her naive, wet behind the ears assistant, Rollins (Ray McKinnon).
But Rita has an agenda of her own and once she's figured out who she should back in order to live in the style to which she would like to become accustomed, she makes her move.
Patricia Arquette "can relate to the different sides of Sandra, and even picked up a few useful tips, like being more organised and which fake tan to buy"
The "sweet and good and kind all the time" character that Peggy displays is not one that impresses Mary-Louise Parker.
The actress says she would be immediately suspicious of someone like her in real life.
Sex, lies and money dominate the storyline of "Goodbye Lover", but they're not personality traits that Dermott Mulroney is keen to adopt.Well, the lies at least. The actor claims he "makes a conscious effort to try and fight against dishonesty and untruths".
It's all about getting what you want, when you want it and becoming the person you need to be in order to make sure you get it.
There's a lot of sex in the movie, but no nudity, which pleased Patricia Arquette, who "made a conscious decision a long time ago to keep her clothes on at work, although she has been naked in one"
Neither Don Johnson, nor Ellen DeGeneres made it to the Premiere of "Goodbye Lover" on Wednesday (April 14).But the comedienne's sidekick Ray heaped praise on her nevertheless, and had a little fun at her expense at the same time.
The Arquette clan were there to lend Patricia some brotherly support on her big night, and naturally where David goes, fiancé Courtney Cox is right by his side.
Separating the sibling from the actress is no big deal for the brothers, "they get so involved in the character, they forget she's related" most of the time.
Premieres always attract fans, and there's no age barrier, they never tire of watching their heroes. If they manage to catch someone's eye and get a wave, it makes the waiting all the more worthwhile, especially if they happen to be a "friend".
Dermot Mulroney has a few friends in the movie, he knew Patricia, Mary-Louise and Ellen before they came together to make the film."He prefers to work with people he already knows and is friends with, although the rapport he has with Ellen made it a little difficult to concentrate at times"
