- Story Text: Just days after he took part in a time-honoured Hollywood tradition of putting his hand and footprints in cement in front of Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Sean Connery returned to the same location on Thursday, April 15 for the Los Angeles premiere of his new thriller "Entrapment."
In the film, Connery plays Robert "Mac" MacDougal, the world's greatest art thief who is the prime suspect in the robbery of a priceless Rembrandt painting in New York.
Newcomer Catherine Zeta-Jones plays insurance investigator Virginia "Gin" Baker, a strong-willed and resourceful woman who has a dark side of her own.She goes after Mac but instead teams up with him to form an edgy partnership that takes them from London to the Western Isles of Scotland, to Kuala Lumpur, the high-tech capital of Malaysia.
Together, they come up with a daring plan for a multi-billion dollar heist tied to the dawn of the new millennium.
Also in the cast are "Mission Impossible" co-star Ving Rhames as Mac's associate, Thibadeaux, Will Patton as Gin's insurance company boss and Maury Chaykin as a sleezy black marketeer.
"Entrapment" is directed by Jon Amiel, who previously brought to the screen "Copycat" with Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter and "Sommersby" with Richard Gere and Jodie Foster.
In addition to starring in the film, Connery also acted as one of the producers. This isn't the first time he has taken on such a role.He previously served as producer for his thriller "Just Cause," and as executive producer for the films "Rising Sun" and "The Rock."
Connery has also recently launched a successful career as a theatrical producer as well.He shared a Tony Award for his part in bringing the play "Art" to Broadway.
Of course, his most famous role is that of British Secret Agent 007, James Bond in such films as "From Russia with Love," "Goldfinger," "Thunderball" and "Diamonds Are Forever."
But his most acclaimed work came in the big screen version of "The Untouchables" for which he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1987.
As much of a veteran as Connery is, Catherine Zeta-Jones is a neophyte to the big-screen world of Hollywood. After taking a supporting role in the little-seen film "The Phantom," she was cast in an American television mini-series "Titanic." It was this film that persuaded executive producer Steven Spielberg to cast her in last summer's box office hit "The Mask of Zorro."
When that film was released in America last July, Zeta-Jones was the subject of much publicity because of her flashy performance and her stunning beauty."Entrapment" is her first film since that time.
The film's crew moved around alot during the making of the movie.Locations included Scotland's Isle of Mull, where Castle Duart, the ancestral home of the Clan Maclean served as the location for Mac's safe house.Production then moved on to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the crew shot in and around the two highest buildings in the world, each standing 84 stories and visible for miles around.
"Entrapment" opens in theaters throughout the United States on Friday, April 30.It's 20th Century Fox's last major release before it unleashes "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" on May 19. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
