- Story Text: Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor has hosted the annual Cinema Against AIDS benefit dinner at the famed French restaurant, Le Moulin de Mougins, just outside Cannes. The benefit dinner and live auction drew in a host of Hollywood stars and supermodels, who came out to support Taylor in her efforts to raise over half a million US dollars for AIDS research.
The sixth annual Cinema Against AIDS dinner, appropriately taking place during the 52nd International Cannes Film Festival, was a star-studded affair.
Celebrities such as Roger Moore, Val Kilmer, Ben Affleck and Angelica Huston, came in support of Elizabeth Taylor's charity evening at Roger Verge's celebrated restaurant, Le Moulin de Mougins, in the hills above Cannes.
It was a hairy moment when the lights went out during Taylor's after dinner speech.
But the legendary actress, who starred in 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof', 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf' and 'Giant', lit up the marquee, with her passionate plea to raise money to fight the AIDS virus.
A number of exclusive items came under the hammer, including a purple dress once owned by the late Diana, Princess of Wales, an equisite Chopard diamond necklace, a studio session with Kate Moss and a pair of jewel encrusted Ray Ban sunglasses.
Taylor urged the heads of the film industry to 'open their hearts and their wallets,' but her attempt to raise 50-thousand US dollars for Peter Beard's: 'The Ultimate Cheetah Package' failed.
When the bid didn't manage to exceed 38-thousand, Taylor had to sit down.
Salma Heyek, star of the movie 'Dogma' being screened out of competition on Friday at the Cannes Film Festival, took to the dance floor with Ben Affleck.
Swinging in time to the salsa beat, the party goers danced well into the night. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
