- Story Text: The glitterati stakes were raised on Wednesday night at this year's lack-lustre Cannes Film Festival with the showing of two American films, 'Ed-TV' and 'Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai'.'A'- list stars of the films: Jim Jarmusch, Forest Whitaker and later Ron Howard and Liz Hurley strolled up the red carpet as the flash bulbs of hundreds of photographers popped.
The chic French seaside resort of Cannes had its starriest showing of Hollywood celebs last night, as two American films were screened at the World's most prestigeous film festival.
'Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai', directed by Jim Jarmusch is a main contender for the festival's Palme d'Or.
Jamusch and Forest Whitaker, who plays 'Ghost Dog' were greeted by the world's media at the starry film premiere.
They were joined by stalwart Angelica Huston, and Juror Holly Hunter, who has a tough time ahead of her to choose a winner for the palm from 22 competition films.
Jarmusch's film is violent but humourous, in 'Ghost Dog', Whitaker plays a hit man who lives by the Samourai code.
In contrast, 'Ed-TV', which screened out of competition at the film fest, doesn't consider the concept of honour, instead it looks at the pursuit of fame.
At the film's glitzy evening premiere Ron Howard, director of 'Ed-TV', turned up on the arm of British actress Liz Hurley.
Hurley better known for being the face of Estee Lauder, than for her acting roles, turned up in a slinky, silver evening gown.Infamous for her scanty attire, Hurley had the world's media eagerly awaiting her arrival. The paparazzi were at first disappointed by her unrevealing outfit -- until it became apparent that her dress was transparent under the lights...
'Ed-TV' tells the tale of Ed, played by Matthew McConaughey, who is recruited to play every waking moment in front of live television cameras for the sake of a new television show called: 'Ed-TV'.Hurley has a small role as a sexy aspiring actress who tries to hitch a ride on Ed's stardom for her own ambitious reasons.Ironically, in real life, Hurley first gained international attention at the premiere of acclaimed 'Four Weddings and a Funeral', when she turned up in 'that dress', with the lead star of the movie and long time boyfriend Hugh Grant.
Finally Wednesday's star-studded evening came to a head with a bit of a swing, as pop diva Lisa Stansfield belted out some of her hit songs from her new movie, recently premiered in London, 'Swing'. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
