- Story Text: Rock icon, Hotei, is releasing his first album in Europe after selling a staggering 25 million copies of his previous 29 albums in his native Japan.The guitarist has worked with some of the world's greatest musicians, including David Bowie, INXS, Joni Mitchell and composer Michael Kamen.
Japanese rock sensation, Hotei, is launching his latest album, 'Supersonic Generation', in Europe, hoping to repeat his extraordinary success in Japan, where he has over one million fans and achieved album sales of over 24 million.
His new album features artists such as Apollo Four Forty and Darren Price of Underworld, and is a "mixture of techo and rock and roll guitar riffs", moving away from his usual rock baseline.Hotei recorded some of his album at Abbey Road Studios in London, a place which he calls his "special place", having been recording there for eleven years.
The guitarist has performed with such artists as David Bowie, INXS, Bob Dylan, Jon Bon Jovi and Joni Mitchell.He has also appeared on a television documentary playing alongside the likes of such renowned guitarists as Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Mark Knopfler.
Best friend, composer Michael Kamen works closely with Hotei, and asked him to play at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics Closing Ceremony, as well as performing on his "Guitar Concerto", a project originally written for Clapton.
Hotei appeared on the soundtrack of Terry Gilliam's film "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.He also wrote and performed a soundtrack album for a movie entitled "Samurai Fiction" in which he also starred.The film was a huge hit in Japan, and having achieved a cult success in Germany, there are now plans to release it throughout Europe.
With a guitar collection that totals over eighty, Hotei is respected around the world and is looking forward to performing at Northern Europe's biggest and most famous festival, Roskilde.After his forthcoming tour of Japan, Hotei has his heart set on completing a tour of Europe. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
