- Story Text: Joni Mitchell, a pioneering singer-songwriter of the 1960's and 70's, has been honoured by her peers for her influence on subsequent generations.
Mitchell was honoured by the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP) at their annual Pop Music Awards with their Founders Award.Mitchell accepted the award from ASCAP presidente Marilyn Bergman at an evening ceremony in Beverly Hills on May 17, saying she "felt really honoured."
Mitchell's songwriting credits include "Both Sides Now,"
Big Yellow Taxi," The Circle Game," "Chelsea Morning," and "Free Man In Paris."
Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder participated in the tribute to Mitchell, which featured a special solo performance of Mitchell's "Woodstock" by Wonder.
