- Story Text: Entering the second week of Cannes Film Festival, director Atom Egoyan's latest film "Felicia's Journey" has drawn some of Hollywood's heavyweights to town for it's official screening at the Palais des Festivals on Monday (May 17).To the delight of the huge crowds lining the Croisette in the hope of finally catching a glimpse of a huge star, movie heartthrob Mel Gibson attended the film's screening.
Egoyan's "Felicia's Journey" is one of 22 films in competition.
Starring Bob Hoskins as a solitary bachelor, the film tells the story of seventeen year old Felicia (Elaine Cassidy) who crosses the Irish Sea to find her lover.Armed with little more than the name of the city where he lives, she sets sail from the 'Emerald Isle to Birmingham in Britain.
In the knowledge that her boyfriend has got to work as a labourer in a lawnmower factory, somewhere in Birmingham, Felicia heads for the capital of Britain's 'Black Country.' But instead of succeeding in finding her lover, naive Felicia is found by Hilditch (Bob Hoskins) who has a history of befriending homeless girls and her quest for love becomes a teenage girl's worst nightmare.
Gibson, is the biggest Hollywood star to attend the festival so far.
It is his film company Icon Productions which sponsored the project. The distinct lack of high-profiled American artists is being blamed on the absence of major block buster movies at this year's festival. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
