- Story Text: Riding high on the success of their latest album, 'Rides', English rockers Reef were in London recently to discuss their non-stop touring and their innovative new video - based on a '70s British tv show about private detectives! English rockers, Reef, are glowing at the moment. They are at the beginning of a world tour to support the release of their third album, 'Rides', the follow-up to their number one album, 'Glow'.
The new album is hard-hitting, ballsy and should definitely be played at a dangerously high volume. It represents everything that Reef are - and the boys are thrilled with it.
The band fought to get the title of their album - they wanted it because it captured the whole way that they went through their lives - riding through the good times and the bad, riding along when things took a turn for the worse. They locked themselves in their manager's office until he agreed the name! The first single release, 'I've Got Something To Say' is accompanied by a brilliant video which is based on the '70s television show, 'Randall and Hopkirk Deceased' and features two characters of each band member - one is the downtrodden, unhappy version and the other is a white-suited happy character who helps his alter-ego to get a zest for life by the end of the video.
Currently at the start of a long and gruelling world tour, the four band members, Gary, Jack, Kenwyn and Dominic seemed very upbeat about life - their UK tour was very well received, they are appearing at some of Europe's biggest festivals in the summer, and they are heading off to Australia after that. But as guitarist Kenwyn House said "It just goes on for us." When they are not delighting audiences around the world, they are writing hit after hit.
Reef first came into the spotlight when they appeared in an advert for mini-discs.The featured song, 'Naked', was unlike anything previously heard - it was hard, it was rock, but it had a summer feel-good factor that made radio audiences sit up and listen.
Quick not to be labelled as just 'surfing' music, the band released a string of hits - each hugely different from the last - they produced ballads, anthems, pop classics and out and out rock.A song from their second album, 'Glow', entitled 'Place Your Hands' was featured on the UK television hit show 'TFI Friday', and that really brought the band into their own. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
