- Story Text: Vonda Shepard is the woman behind the music of the internationally successful television show 'Ally McBeal'.She has enjoyed huge success with her album 'Songs From Ally McBeal' - selling over a million copies in America alone. Now she is hoping to better that with the release of her next album, 'By 7.30'.
It can't hurt having a superstar American actress as one of your closest friends and it definitely helps when that star happens to be married to the creator of one of America's most successful television shows.
That's the case with Vonda Shepard - the talented singer-songwriter who appears each week on 'Ally Beal', either helping the show's cast drown their sorrows with soulful ballads or bringing the house down with her powerful voice and rocking piano beats.
The close friend is Michelle Pfeiffer and her husband is David Kelley - the show's creator, writer and executive producer.Vonda invited the couple to one of her shows and the rest is history.
But it was not all plain sailing.Vonda had an unconventional childhood. Her father was a mime artist and Vonda was constantly finding jugglers, acrobats and all sorts sleeping in the family living-room! She performed her first gig at the tender age of fourteen and went on to provide backing vocals for the likes of Rickie Lee Jones and Jackson Browne.
But her real break came when she met David Kelley, a regular attendee of her shows. He was just about to start filming the pilot for his new show and he needed a singer who would appear in most of the episodes and become an integral part of the show.As soon as he heard her belt out the song 'Searching My Soul', he knew that he had found the show's title tune and he knew that he had found his singer.
Vonda had no idea how successful the show would become - she thought that it would be a bit part for her and she would simply earn enough to pay the rent for a few months. How wrong she was.
These days, Vonda performed to packed audiences around the world and has just completed a tour of the UK.But she will never let it go to her head and always bears in mind that only a couple of years ago she was playing to an audience of thirty-five people.
Her new album, entitled 'By 7.30' contains thirteen original songs and her first single release is a beautiful duet with 'The Indigo Girls'' Emily Saliers called 'Baby, Don't You Break My Heart Slow.' The future looks very bright for Vonda Shepard - the voice of 'Ally McBeal'. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
