- Story Text: Wrapping up a busy week of publicity on behalf of the newest Disney animated film "Tarzan," Phil Collins was honoured with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame on Wednesday, June 16.
This was Collins' third event this week in support of the newest Disney animated film.On Saturday, he attended its World Premiere at the El Capitan theatre in downtown Hollywood, then flew to New York for another premiere event there, then returned to the sidewalk outside the El Capitan to receive his star.
Although the star ceremony was held in conjunction with the release of "Tarzan," the award was meant to honor Collins for his career-long body of work, including his music with the band Genesis, his solo recordings such as "One More Night", "In the Air Tonight" and "Sussuido," and his recent experiment with "Big Band" swing music.
In all, Collins has won six Grammy Awards and his solo albums have sold more than 70 million copies around the world.
He has also collaborated with some of the top names in the music business, including Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Brain Eno, Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett and Peter Gabriel.
"Tarzan" isn't Collins' first flirtation with movies. He previously appeared in the television film "And the Band Played On" and the feature film "Buster," for which he also provided songs. He also wrote and performed "Against All Odds" for the movie of the same name starring Jeff Bridges and Rachel Ward.
He recently fulfilled a lifetime ambition by going on the road with his own 20-piece big band which made its debut in London's Royal Albert Hall in the company of conductor Quincy Jones and guest vocalist Tony Bennett. The band went on to play seven other European concerts including two shows at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Collins' star is the 2,138th star on the Walk of Fame and is located just outside the El Capitan theatre, where "Tarzan"
is now playing. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
