- Story Text: Academy Award winning actor Kevin Spacey joined an ever-burgeoning pantheon on Tuesday (October 5) when he was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Spacey, who is currently starring in "American Beauty," won a Best Supporting Oscar for his dual role in the crime drama "The Usual Suspects." In 1991 he won a Tony Award (given out for excellence on the Broadway stage) for his performance in Neil Simon's "Lost In Yonkers." This year, he was honoured with a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play for his performance in the revival of Eugene O'Neill's "The Iceman Cometh."
"I'm having a year that for me has meant so much because I've been able to have experiences in theatre and film that really are the measure for me of what those industries can do," Spacey told Reuters."Now the trick is going and finding stuff that's going to challenge me just as much."
On hand for their colleague's honour were fellow actors Edward Norton and Jack Lemmon.Norton, who co-stars with Brad Pitt in the upcoming "Fight Club," began his testament to Spacey by saying he was one of the actors in his generation he truly admired."But I started realising that he's really not in my generation, because he turned forty recently." Jack Lemmon, who co-starred with Spacey in the film adaptation of David Mamet's "Glengarry Glen Ross," praised his versatility, saying "You do not know what you're going to get when you go to see a Kevin Spacey film.You can't say that about everybody."
Spacey's other films include the action thriller "The Negotiator," and the screen adaptation of David Rabe's play "Hurlyburly"; in addition, he co-starred in "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," "L.A.Confidential," "A Time To Kill," "Looking for Richard," "Seven," "Outbreak" and "Swimming with Sharks." Behind the camera, he made his feature film directorial debut with the independent feature "Albino Alligator." He also produces and stars in the upcoming film "The Big Kahuna."
