- Story Text: Three of America's hottest television stars, Neve Campbell of "Party of Five," Dylan McDermott of "The Practice," and Matthew Perry of "Friends," attended the world premiere of their newest film comedy "Three to Tango" on Tuesday, October 19 in Los Angeles.
In the film, Perry stars as Oscar Novak, an idealistic, young architect on the rise.Boyishly handsome and funny, Oscar and his business partner Peter Steinberg, played by Oliver Platt, have just landed a career-making opportunity to compete for the design of a high profile, multi-million dollar cultural center being built by Chicago tycoon Charles Newman, played by Dylan McDermott.
Impressed with Oscar's feverish dedication to winning the job, and mistakenly believing that he's gay, Charles assigns him the additional task of spying on his mistress, an artist named Amy, played by Campbell.
Oscar's bumbling attempts at surveillance fail, but he does develop a crush on the beautiful and headstrong Amy, who begins to return his growing affection, even though she, too, is under the impression that he is gay.Soon, Oscar realizes everyone has the wrong idea about his, but then it's too late to correct things without jeopardizing his chances at winning the design contract.
Instead, he continues to play the role, both to keep the job and to stay near Amy, with whom he has most definitely fallen in love.Soon, the entire city of Chicago comes to understand Oscar is gay, and his picture is on the front page of all the local newspapers as "the most famous gay man in Chicago!"
Damon Santostefano makes his feature film directorial debut with "Three to Tango," which is written by Rodney Vaccaro, based on his own real life bizarre romantic experiences.
For all three lead actors, "Three to Tango" was a welcome break from the daily grind of working on hit television series. The newest member of the t-v class was McDermoot, who, at the time of production, had just started working on the drama "The Practice." Since, then it has gone on to become a ratings champion and win a host of awards, including the recent Emmy for Outstanding Dramatic Series.
For Campbell and Perry, "Three to Tango" was a chance to stretch their talents beyond what is usually required of them in their television work.Perry was used to playing comedy from working on "Friends," but he was more challenged by the dramatic scenes in the film.We went to Campbell for help, who, in turn, asked Perry for tips when playing comedy.
Campbell's work on "Party of Five" is much more dramatic than comedic, and she admits being nervous going into production on a big screen romantic comedy.
"Three to Tango" opens in theaters throughout the United States on Friday, October 22. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
