- Story Text: Disney's spectacular and groundbreaking musical The Lion King had its premiere last night (Tuesday October 20) at London's Lyceum Theatre.
The Lion King opened in New York in 1997 and has already won 25 major awards.The musical features 15 musical numbers, 5 of which were presented in the animated film.The score encompasses the sounds and rhythms of the African culture along with the appeal of popular music.
The Lion King tells the story of a young lion cub named Simba, as he struggles to accept the responsibilities of adulthood and his destined role as a king.
The Lion King, directed by Julie Taymor, is a daring and inspiring reinvention of one of the most successfull films of all time.The Performers use masks and puppet techniques to portray the characters in the musical.
The Lion King features 15 numbers.South African composer Lebo M, as well as writing completely new songs, has created an evocative blend of African rhythms and chorales.
Elton John and Tim Rice have added three new numbers to the five they had already written for the animated film.
