  • Story Text: Comedians Steve Martin and Jerry Seinfeld came out to support fellow actor/comic Garry Shandling at the premiere of his film "What Planet Are You From?" in New York City.
    Noticeably absent from the premiere was Shandling's co-star and on-screen love interest Annette Bening amidst playful speculation from fellow cast members about the paternity of her soon-to-be-born child who was conceived during the film's shooting last year.
    What Planet Are You From - teams up the unlikely duo of writer/producer/star Garry Shandling and director Mike Nichols in a comedy about alien colonzation and conquest of the planet Earth.
    Shandling plays alien H1449-6 who is chosen by his planets leader, played by Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, to go to Earth and impregnate one of its females to begin a takeover of the planet from within its own population.The only catch is as every member of H1449-6 race is a male clone, the advanced civilization has no need for sex and the aliens do not have penises.
    Armed with a mechanical penis and an arsenal of pick-up lines, H1449-6 heads to Earth as banker Harold Anderson ready to impregnate virtually every female he lays eyes on.Upon his arrival, Harold enlists the help of ladies man and fellow banker Perry Gordon, played by Oscar recipient Greg Kinnear.
    Harold's sexual adventures lead him to the beds of a stewardess, a topless waitress and Perry's wide before he finally decides recovering alcoholic Susan Hart, portrayed by Academy Award nominee Annette Bening, is the Earth woman best suited to carry his child.And it is with Susan that Harold learns the ups and downs of human relationships.
    'What Planet Are You From?" marks Shandling's first attempt at the lead role in a feature film.
    Criticallyacclaimed as a stand-up comic and as the title character of the long-running cable programme "The Larry Sanders Show", Shandling has recieved numerous Emmy Award nominations and Cable Ace awards and co-starred on the big screen with the likes of Warren Beatty, Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton, Andie McDowell, Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey and Bening.
    Joining Shandling is Academy Award, Tony and Emmy Award winning director Mike Nichols.Best known for such efforts as "The Graduate", "Silkwood", "Working Girl" and more recently "The Birdcage" and "Primary Colors", Nichols is no stranger to films about human behavior and sexual mores but has never taken on anything quite like the interplanetary love story that is "What Planet Are You From".
