- Story Text: Superstar artists mingled with producers, label mates, and friends as Arista Records president Clive Davis hosted his annual Grammy party at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.
Friends, artists, and other members of the Arista family showed up for the annual Clive Davis Pre-Grammy soiree at the posh Beverly Hilton Hotel to celebrate the year's haul of Grammy nominations as well as to toast label head Davis.
Arista artists generated a remarkable forty-six nominations, led by Santana, who topped this year's nominations with eleven nods including Album of The Year and Song of The Year.
The legendary producer, up for three Grammys for producing Santana and Whitney Houston's latest discs, is also being honored with the prestigious Trustees Grammy Award.
Given the rumours regarding his tenure at Arista, including talk of starting up another label, this could have been easily interpreted as a a farewell party, but not to Davis.
"Tonight celebrates music," he said."It's not just a party, but a celebration."
Celebration could be an understatement, given the plethora of stars in attendance.Tony Bennett, George Benson, Barry Manilow, TLC, Toni Braxton, Sarah McLachlan, Puff Daddy, and Jennifer Lopez came to show their respect for Davis.
The house was treated to a mini-concert by diva Whitney Houston, who was in good spirits, extending the microphone to audience members encouraging them to sing their praises to Davis as well.
Santana made the standing room only crowd put on its collective dancing shoes, filling the ballroom with the ethereal sounds of his wailing guitar as punctuated by the percussion and horns of his full band.
But, as most of the world will see during the Grammy telecast, it was his duet with Rob Thomas on "Smooth" that really made the hands go up in the air. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
