- Story Text: Peter Graves, the star from the popular television series "Mission Impossible" and "Charlie's Angel" Cheryl Ladd have received special awards at this year's 40th Television Festival in Monte Carlo.
The 40th Monte Carlo television Festival on Tuesday (February 22) handed out awards for the best in telefilms and miniseries.
Amongst them, Peter Graves, who many remember as Mr.Phelps of the ever popular TV series "Mission Impossible".
"When a series is that successful, people watch you every week and get to know you or at least think they get to know the real you, you become a part of their lives and a part of their family and that makes a very strong impression. And then when they see you in different things sometimes it can take a while for people to accept you doing something different than "Mission Impossible" but I've been very lucky about that too because I've gone on to do many other things - films and series and many other television shows" he said.
Moviemakers have already produced a follow-up to last year's Big Screen version of "Mission Impossible" with Tom Cruise.About the cinema version of the series, Peter Graves says "The film did very well, did wonderful business.Tom Cruise is a wonderful actor. It was full of good performances and it did well financially but for me who originated Mr.
Phelps it was a disappointment. Now we see the new one that's coming out I believe this summer, that they have finished already and see what that's like."
Actress Cheryl Ladd of the all-time favourite television series, "Charlie's Angels" also received an award for her performance."It sticks to me like glue but it's alright.I've had a long career, I've done 35 films, mini series, movies for television, I've done a lot of work but everyone loves "Charlie's Angels", they will always love "Charlie's Angels".
It's a funny story because Sally Field, the actress who has won several academy awards - people still want to talk to her about "The Flying Nun", which was a popular series in the States many many years ago. When people connect up with you in a series, they will always love you for that series."
As with "Mission Impossible", there are already plans to turn "Charlie's Angels" into a Big Screen movie.
"They're very different today. It's interesting that they're making a feature film about "Charlie's Angels" because it's such a different sensibility.Everything is a little racier, a little rougher-edged than the time that we did "Charlie's Angels".We were like girls scouts you know, girls next door.
It was pretty tame.So I think it might be a challenge, although I think Drew Barrymore is a wonderful actress and I think she has a great heart. It could be a big success.I think they're finding it difficult to remake things and have them become successful because as I said it's a different era, it's a different time, sensibility" she said.
French film director of "Victoire ou la douleur des femmes"
Nadine Trintignant was also present at the ceremony and said about her film "It's great in the film to be able to say 'I'm not talking to women, I'm talking to men'.And that's precisely why Victoire's love has such an importance in the film because she's a woman who knows about love who has experienced her first love with innocence."
The movie, a tale about love, injustice and women's rights, follows the life and struggle of Victoire from her experiences as a young woman to her her successes in later life.
Other stars at the festival include James Bond star Roger Moore who is also expected to pick up an award. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
