- Story Text: Riding high on the current wave of nu-metal rock bands taking the music world by storm, Puddle of Mudd not only have a massive fan base in the States and Europe, they also have critical acclaim and a platinum selling album under their belts.
The latest sound to give increasingly discerning teenage music fans an alternative to manufactured pop is nu-metal, lead by Limp Bizkit, its heavy rock riffs and hard rap lyrics provide all the angst and anger any fifteen year old might require. But a less aggressive, more grunge inspired sound is beginning to emerge from the noise. Puddle Of Mudd have taken nu-metal and made it their own...mb with massive selling results. Their chart topping debut album, Come Clean, went platinum, "I don't think we really had time to kick back and think about it because we were constantly going from this place to that place, play this show, do this TV show, we stay so busy that I personally haven't been like Oh My God we're platinum, it's a big deal, we're just to busy."... "We're very happy about it though"
The band were the first act to be signed to Limp Bizkit front man Fred Durst's label, Flawless. After such a huge success with their first outing, the four-piece could be forgiven from having second-album jitters, but they are relishing the prospect of unleashing new material on their enthusiastic fans.
"We've already all been writing new songs, right when we got out of the studio for the first record we started writing songs for the next record, because all you have to do just sit down with an acoustic guitar and be able to sing and play, and that's how it happens, so we already have ten or eleven songs done, plus another ten songs that were previously recorded already that we could use, and the second record we've got some awesome music for it already, so we're ready."
At their recent London shows, the strength of support was clear, with as many fans turning out to see them as the headline act, Staind. One of the highlights was Control, their first single, which had the audience singing, and screaming along.
"I don't think we ever thought Control was going to be "the" single, it just became the first single, and every song throughout the whole record we try equally hard to write and make the best it can be and make it a different mood from one another so it doesn't sound like one big long same song, but we chose the single at the end, we don't write thinking about singles."
And fans in the rest of Europe won't miss out, Puddle of Mudd are currently touring the continent.
"Europe, back to Germany, Austria, Sweden, Amsterdam, all of it."
The band will also be taking part in MTV's Winterjam concert on 22nd February where Reuters will catch up with them in the Austrian ski resort of Solden.
