- Story Text: Gimme Some Truth, a new documentary drawing from the John Lennon/Yoko Ono film archives, features previously unreleased footage of John Lennon and Yoko Ono during the making of Lennon's paean to world peace and harmony, "Imagine".
Gimmie Some Truth, the film cut from home movies of John Lennon and shot while he was recording the "Imagine"
album, features footage of Lennon working with wife Yoko Ono, famed producer Phil Spector, and a slew of engineers and friends in the studio at his Berkshire mansion.
The film was made by the Beatle during 1971 and according to Ono, gives insight into their personal relationship as well as revealing many sides of Lennon that came out during the process of creating what is now widely recognized as one of his career-defining works.
"We were just human beings...two people, man and woman and we were so much in love, just in love with each other, so that shows and comes across...also there's some magical moments that's not just me and John," says Yoko.
"George Harrison and John were making music together in the studio, and also Phil Spector who was a brilliant producer as you know, but he's famous for being difficult or something; and in this film you actually see that he's a very warm human being."
The film has recently been released in conjunction with Capitol Records, who have exclusive licenses for all such films with the Lennon/Ono Archives.
Hundreds of hours of footage filmed by Ono and Lennon was edited down by director Andrew Solt. Some scenes in the film include the famed sequence of Lennon sitting in a vast, empty room at his white grand piano as Ono listens to his raw performance of "Imagine".
There are other images of the two 'sniping' at each other in public, private and on record.
When asked about the many disputes between the bandmates that led to their breakup, Ono said it was probably very difficult being as talented and intelligent as they all were.
"I think it ws fate that it ended in the way that it did and I don't know what that means yet...actually they're all very intelligent and sensitive artists and so for four very intelligent artists to be together for so long which they were, might have been very difficult as well."
Both the digitally remasterd CD "Imagine" and the documentary of its creation, "Gimme Some Truth" are currently in stores. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
