- Story Text: Actress Heather Graham ("Boogie Nights", "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me", and "Bowfinger") returns to the big screen, this time as the lead, in Miramax's "Committed" about a devout wife and her not-so-committed husband.
With nearly 13 years and 30 film credits under her belt, reigning "It" girl Heather Graham has finally been asked to carry a film as Joline in Miramax's "Committed", which had it's world premiere in Los Angeles last week.
Joining Graham are up-and-comers Luke Wilson, Casey Affleck and Goran Visnjic.
"Committed" is the story of Joline (Graham) a happy-go-lucky new age bohemian who takes nothing in life very seriously with the exception of her wedding vows. That's why it comes as a complete shock to her when her beloved, played by Luke Wilson ("My Dog Skip"), skips town without so much as a good-bye.
So, the devout to a fault Joline embarks on a road trip to round up her unfaithful spouse which takes her from New York City to El Paso, Texas where her faith is truly tested when she meets her husband's new boss, his girlfriend, played by newcomer Patricia Velasqeuz, and his randy neighbor, played by Goran Visnjic of "E.R." fame, all while trying not interrupt her husband's soul searching.
When Joline finally confronts her philandering husband and discovers the relationship is over, she enlists the help of her younger brother, played by Ben Affleck's younger brother Casey, and the lengths she goes to trying ti save her marriage truly redefine what it means to be committed.
In a recent interview with Reuters, the 30-year-old Graham was unfazed by the pressures of making Hollywood's "A-list".
"I never really thought 'I want to be an it girl'", said Graham, "that seems to imply it's a trend and it's going to pass.I just want to have a career."
There is no denying, however, that Graham is the girl of the moment.Despite critical recognition for her performance in Gus Van Sant's "Drugstore Cowboy" back in 1989, it was Paul Thomas Anderson's "Boogie Nights" and the role of drug addicted porn star "Roller Girl" that put her on the path to stardom.Last year's summer blockbusters "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" opposite Mike Myers and "Bowfinger" with Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy put Graham in demand.
Luke Wilson, who most recently appeared opposite Kevin Bacon in "My Dog Skip", said working with Graham while they're both on their way towards the top was a pleasure.
"Sometimes, you can be excited about working with somebody or meeting somebody and you meet them and maybe it doesn't measure up," said Wilson, "Heather was just a very hard worker and really...it's like actor cliché, but giving."
Wilson and Graham are joined on-screen by Casey Affleck, yes, the younger brother of Ben, who looks to break out as an actor in his own right as Joline's morally relaxed younger brother in "Committed".He is however quite aware that celebrity doesn't always come as quickly as it did for big brother Ben.
"Heather certainly over the past few years has gotten much more popular which is always funny because it kind of goes to show you that you never know what's going to happen with your career," said Affleck, "She's been doing good stuff for so long. It's kind of strange she should suddenly get recognition now by being Felicity Shagwell."
