- Story Text: Filmmaker Woody Allen has celebrated the World Premiere of his 30th film as a director "Small Time Crooks" in New York. His co-stars Hugh Grant and Tracey Ullman also attended.
The movie is the story of Ray and Frenchy Winkler, played by Allen and Tracy Ullman, a working class New York couple who plan to break out of their hard-knock existence by robbing a bank. However, once they succeed, they find a bigger challenge in trying to fit into nouveau-riche New York City high society.
Although the film, like most of Allen's projects, is an ensemble, it features substantial roles for Hugh Grant as a suave but duplicitous art dealer and screenwriter Elaine May as Frenchy's dim-witted sister.
Given its subject matter and broad, slapstick comedic style, "Small Time Crooks" is being compared to some of Allen's earlier work, specifically his 1969 debut as a director "Take the Money and Run."
"Small Time Crooks" opens in theaters throughout the United States on Friday, May 19. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
