- Story Text: French band The Micronauts have blasted onto the dance music scene with 'The Jag' - a blend of acid grooves, electronic manoeuvres and soulful vocals.Their surreal video, filmed in a supermarket, has to be seen to be believed.
Welcome to the very strange, but highly addictive world of The Micronauts.
In 1992, a bored Canadian decided to move to Paris to study at the legendary Sorbonne.A huge fan of club music, George Issakidis went to work on a clubbers' fanzine called Eden. There he met Christophe Monier and immediately The Micronauts were created.
Named after a seventies sci-fi Marvel comic, The Micronauts instantly received critical acclaim throughout France - their tunes filled dancefloors everywhere and pubs were packed out each time they DJed.
Soon everyone wanted a piece of the band - the Chemical Brothers asked them to remix their club classic 'Block Rockin' Beats', Daft Punk remixed one of their singles, the band were asked to put together a compilation album of rare electro tracks - they haven't looked back since! They make no secret of the fact that in order to create their distinct sounds, they feast on a menu of sex, parties and drugs. They believe in quality over quantity - having released only three singles in six years.
Their latest, 'The Jag', has been described as an 'outstanding electro epic' - it is almost eleven minutes long and is highly infectious. The video, based in a local supermarket, is a fascinating trip - blurred camera shots, a bizarre storyline and a large number of semi-naked shoppers! With their debut album out next year, The Micronauts are finally getting the attention they deserve. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
