- Story Text: Sexy, sassy supermodels brought the glamour back to Cannes when Victoria's Secret staged their first ever European fashion show in support of the annual amFAR party.Hosted by Elizabeth Taylor, the event broke records by raising more than two million dollars.
For many years the amFAR (American Foundation for Aids Research) party has been the highlight of the Cannes Film Festival, attracting the cream of the celebrity world to help raise money for the fight against AIDS.
A break with tradition saw the venue change from the celebrated Moulin de Mougins restaurant, owned by Roger Verge to the picturesque Palm Beach location.
In a bid to raise more money for the charity, amFAR recruited the highly successful U.S.lingerie company Victoria's Secret, persuading them to abandon New York for the French Riviera to launch their latest collection. With the help of their top models, Heidi Klum, Laetitia Casta, Karen Mulder, Eva Herzigova, Tyra Banks, Stephanie Seymour and Giselle, Victoria's Secret enticed the great and the good of the film and fashion world to the gala event.
The evening began with a celebrity screening of Kenneth Brannagh's latest Shakespeare interpretation "Love's Labours Lost".It was followed by a spectacular fashion show which was simultaneously webcast on the internet.
Guest were then treated to a dinner hosted by Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein and Elton John with tables costing between $25,000 and $100,000 each. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
