- Story Text: Hot on the heels of its Australian premiere, actor Tom
Cruise and director John Woo arrived in Hong Kong for the
Chinese premiere of their latest collaboration, "Mi2".
Acclaimed-action director John Woo said on Thursday
that he preferred working in the US to Hong Kong because of
the wide-ranging choices of film work he could work on there.
"In the US, I must say that I have so many choices, I can
try so many things. It is a very open country, it welcomes all
kinds of talented people to work in Hollywood. And the people
there are very professional." he told Reuters at the Mi2 gals
premiere in Hong Kong on Thursday night (June 1).
"I think the system is a little complicated: it's just
very different to working in Hong Kong.In the meantime, I've
got so much support and so many friends over there, I feel
very happy to work in Hollywood."
However, he does not rule out returning to Hong Kong to
film: "I'd love to come back to work on a movie some day but
for the moment I am so busy; I am tied up with so many
projects.I have 3 to five movies to be made. But in the
future, I wish I can make a movie in China.I love my country
and I hope I can make a historical film."
"I don't have any ideas yet but any movie that can show
the true spirit of the Chinese people and the culture, I would
love to do.."
Hollywood movie star Tom Cruise flew into Hong Kong in his
private jet on Wednesday (May 31) to promote the second of the
the Mission Impossible movies.
In a press conference, Tom told reporters that he is
really impressed by John Woo's movies.
" There are many things I find impressive about John Woo.
He has the confidence on the set to see things, and the
patience to let them happen."
"His imagery is so artful.John Woo as a person has great
humanity, incredible patience, and I think that translates to
the screen. His action elevates beyond the genre," Cruise
said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
