- Story Text: Recent revelations regarding her sexuality hasn't changed singer Sinead O'Connor's mind about men or music in spite of the controversial single "No Man's Woman", the first track from her new CD "Faith and Courage".
Fiery Irish pop star Sinead O'Connor, whose latest single is called 'No Man's Woman,' revealed she is a lesbian in a magazine interview to be published later this month.
Her new album on Atlantic Records is the first in over five years for the singing, songwriting mother of two.
Dubbed by Rolling Stone Magazine as "the Sinead album you've been wanting for years...", O'Connor, 33, has been making the promotional rounds, talking about lyrics, music, politics, and most recently her own sexuality.
Ordained last year as a priest by the leader of a quasi-Catholic religious sect in Ireland, Sinead will come out of the closet in the cover story of the July-August issue of Curve, America's biggest-selling lesbian magazine.
"Faith and Courage" is the title of the new CD, which features production work from Eurhytmics Dave Stewart, Wyclef Jean, Brian Eno, and Kevin "She'kspeare" Briggs.
Her subtly Brogue-inflected vocals do not dissapoint, as the album is getting raves from industry reviewers and radio programmers although the intial reaction to the lead-off track, "No Man's Woman", was less than positive.
"I feel the radio stations and people like that sometimes need to drum up controversy where there is none and see it where there is none," explained O'Conner in a Reuter interview.
"I think when we see something in something usually that's something that's within ourselves. Anyone listening to the words of the song can see that the song honors the spirit of men and talks about being in love with the spirit of a man but not wanting to be a lover, a girlfriend or a wife."
"So I feel that someone who thinks the song is man-bashing has not listened to the words of the song or doesn't really understand the context of the album either which is very much in honor of men as an entirety, as an entity."
