  • Story Text: The 31st Annual Songwriters' Hall of Fame Induction Awards has taken place in New York with Paul McCartney, James Brown, James Taylor and other famed musicians in attendance.
    A star studded evening of music and a celebration of the songwriters behind the music took place at the Sheraton New York Hotel on Thursday (June 15).
    Brian Wilson, the famed bass player and master songwriter behind the music of The Beach Boys was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame by none other than Paul McCartney of the Beatles.
    When introducing Wilson, McCartney said, "For having that thing that you can do with your music, you just put those notes, those harmonies together, stick a couple of words over the top of it and you've got me."
    Wilson and the Beach Boys are known for such classic hits as "Help me Rhonda," "Little Deuce Coupe," and "Daddy Takes the T-Bird Away." When asked about songwriting, Wilson said, "Songwriting is the source of a record, you have to have a song before you can have a record, so songwriting is basically the most important part of a record.
    The "Godfather of Soul," James Brown was also inducted into the Hall of Fame as well. He performed his classic tune
    "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag," with all the style and power he is so well known for. Brown has also writen such classics as "I Feel Good" and "This Is a Man's World."
    James Taylor, best know for his songs, "Fire and Rain," "You've Got A Friend" and "Goin' to Carolina" was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. He said, "I just wanted to thank whatever powers that be for the miracle of music and for a life in music doing something that's so fun and so true.
    The evening ended with a lively version of the Ben E. King classic, "Stand By Me." Paul McCartney lead the group of musicians gathered on stage that included, James Brown and the young musical group, Hanson.
