- Story Text: Veteran US actor Samuel L. Jackson has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - on the eve of his debut in the title role of the updated "Shaft."
On hand to help pay tribute to the 51-year-old Jackson were fellow thespians and one-time co-stars Angela Bassett and Dustin Hoffman.
Hoffman, who acted opposite Jackson on the sci-fi action picture "Sphere," made sure the audience was aware of Jackson's work apart from that acted in front of a camera.
"Sam Jackson first and foremost is a stage animal, and that's why I'm here today and it's a great pleasure to honor him," said Hoffman.
Jackson, who graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia with a degree in dramatic arts, and went on to perform in numerous plays, has now piled up dozens of movies on his filmography. More than 70, in fact.
Among the best known are "Pulp Fiction," "Jungle Fever,"
"Rules of Engagement," "The Red Violin" and "Jackie Brown."
"It never came across my mind that I would be part of this, even once I got into this business. It was just kind of, not a thought. So, you carry on and do the things that you do.
And sometimes good things happen, or amazing things," Jackson told the crowd on hand.
Jackson, who was nominated for a best supporting actor Ocar for his role as Jules, the philosophizing hitman in "Pulp Fiction," will next be seen in "Unbreakable," opposite Bruce Willis.
"Shaft," an updating of the classic 70's blaxploitation film, features Jackson as the nephew of private eye Shaft, played by Richard Roundtree, who reprises his role in the new film.
"Shaft" finished number one at the box office for the weekend ending June 18. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
