- Story Text: US pop star Madonna has given birth to a boy, three weeks earlier than expected, after suffering complications in her pregnancy. No further details have been forthcoming.
A statement from Madonna's record company, Warner Brothers said that she and her partner, British film director Guy Ritchie, were delighted to announce the birth of their son, Rocco Ritchie, on Friday (August 11).
The statement added that mother, father, sister Lourdes and baby, are all safe and sound at an undisclosed location.
Madonna, 41, had said in an telephone interview with a Los Angeles radio station on Thursday (August 10) that she wanted to give birth in the United States, rather than in England, where she has been living with Ritchie.
In the interview, she described English hospitals as "old" and "Victorian", adding that it felt strange to consult doctors in a foreign country.
Madonna described herself as being as big as a water buffalo and said she was no longer able to do yoga exercises.
Her three year-old daughter Lourdes was fathered by her former personal trainer.
