- Story Text: Jennifer Lopez put aside her pop music career when she attended the World Premiere of her new psychological thriller "The Cell," in Los Angeles. In the dark, visually eye-opening thriller, Lopez plays a psychologist who is experimenting with radical new transcendental science where she can literally experience what is happening in another person's dreams and private thoughts! In this dark thriller, Lopez plays psychologist Catherine Deane who is experimenting with radical new transcendental science where she can literally experience what is happening in another person's dreams and private thoughts.
Her talents come to the attention of FBI Agent Peter Novak, played by "Swingers" co-star Vince Vaughn, who's on the trail of the final victim of ingenious but deranged serial killer Carl Stargher, played by Vincent D'Onofrio.
It seems Stargher has fallen into a coma, leaving the life of the final victim hanging in the balance.
Only Catherine has the ability to use her chemically and electrically-induced therapy to enter the psychopath's mind and hunt down the location of his infamous and deadly lair.
"The Cell" marks the feature film directorial debut of acclaimed Indian visual artist Tarsem.
Tarsem is best known for directing the music video for the hit REM song "Losing My Religion."
Given his background as an innovative visual artist, Lopez believes he was the perfect choice to direct this project, given its intense and visually-stunning sets, costumes and special effects sequences.
Observers in Hollywood are already referring to "The Cell" as the next "Silence of the Lambs."
This is the first big screen outing for Jennifer Lopez since her critically-acclaimed role in Steven Soderbergh's "Out of Sight," with George Clooney.
In the interim, she's recorded and released her debut pop album, "On the 6," which has sold more than three million copies worldwide.
Audiences will determine if her film work is as popular when "The Cell" opens in theatres throughout the United States this weekend. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
