- Story Text: Hollywood talent is hot news in the West End at the moment and a string of stars have headed for the London stage.
Amongst them is Daryl Hannah who makes her stage debut in "The Seven Year Itch"
Daryl Hannah has abandoned the silver screen, which has seen her play everything from replicants to mermaids, to tread the boards in the original stage version of a very famous film - The Seven Year Itch.
She will be starring as "The Girl" - a fantasy figure immortalized on film by Marilyn Monroe.
"She's just called The Girl, which I think she's supposed to be sort of a symbol for any girl that a man who's been married for seven years or more, has a fantasy about..
she is more symbolic than anything because they don't even bother to give her a name and I think she just represents a sort of slightly vapid yet intoxicating person that somebody fantasizes about but doesn't really want to have a long-term relationship with."
So how nervous is she to play a role immortalized by the great Marilyn Monroe? "Well it's a bit daunting to play a role that was immortalized by her but as Michael Radford, who is the director of the play, has told me that people think they remember the film but they don't really remember it so well and what they really remember is the poster more than anything and the play is a little bit different than the film and it's a fun role and hopefully people won't be comparing me to her because there's just no way to win that comparison and hopefully they will just enjoy the material and our performances. "
Hannah's leading man will be Rolf Saxton and the play is directed by Mike Radford - who Hannah has recently worked with on a film called "Dancing at the Blue Iguana"
She is glad to be in familiar directorial hands for this venture which is her first ever appearance in a stage play.
" This is my first play and I am sure it's going to be entirely different and this is only my second day of rehearsals and part of my desire to do it is to see what that process is like so I anticipate that it is going to be completely different and hopefully it'll be a really creative experience and rewarding but it might just be terrifying and a disaster, I don't know."
