  • Story Text: With the launch of the hit musical Aida in March, Elton John added to his legendary status as one of today's most accomplished pop icons. Now two of Aida's principal stars, Sherie Rene Scott and Adam Pascal, are following in Elton's footsteps with the release of their own rock cd's.
    When Aida hit the Broadway stage in March it was further proof that a musical with pop sensibilities can find an audience on the Great White Way. Now two of its principal stars, Sherie Rene Scott, and Adam Pascal, have released their own cd's, and both are unabashedly rock and roll.
    Scott is a veteran of the musical stage, appearing in "Tommy", "Faust", and Jonathan Larson's "Rent." She plays the spurned princess Amneris in this Tony-award winning production of Aida.
    Pascal, who plays the role of the Egyptian warrior Radames, has emerged as one of Broadway's new stars.
    Previously he spent a year and a half in the lead role of "Rent."
    "Men I've had," Scott's cd, is a collection of classic rockers. It features music by Pete Townsend, Elton John, Jonathan Larson and others, all of whom Scott has worked with on Broadway.
    Growing up in Kansas Scott kept a scrap book filled with Elton John and Pete Townsend clippings. Getting a chance to work with these legends of rock has been a dream come true for Scott, and the provocative title of the cd is a form of tribute to them.
    Scott says that as a woman interpreting such classics as Towsend's "Squeeze Box," and John's "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters," she provides a new and different angle to these.
    "Because these are all male composers and they've all done their own music, to have a woman re-interpret them and a woman who has a theatrical base gives such a freshness to the music.
    So I think that is my style, it's character driven, it's fresh and it's kind of a theatrical listening experience that starts one place andin another."
    "Men I've Had" also includes songs by Randy Newman and a Never-before-recorded song by Jonathan Larson titled "Love Heals." Scott says you could describe her style as sultry and bluesy, but adds, "It's also for the journey of the album. And the journey of Sherie Renee the singer, that she starts in a very sexual place and goes through a journey that lands in a very spiritual place."
    All of the songs on "Model Prisoner" were written by Pascal. Long before he took to the stage, Pascal had his own rock band. Releasing his own album has been a lifelong dream for Pascal and he can't wait to bring his songs to a live audience.
    "It feels great, I can't wait to get out there and start playing it live and expose people to it on a broader level. I mean the records out and doing really really well, and it's getting great response. But there's nothing like going out there and playing live and getting that reaction from the audience on a kind of individual basis"
    Pascal describes the inspiration behind his work.     Both Pascal and Scott's cd's are co-produced by Grammy winner Joel Moss whose list of clients include Chaka Kahn, the Eagle, and the Talking Heads. The cd's are available over the Internet from Sh-K-Boom Records.
