- Story Text: American actor Macaulay Culkin is set to make his West End stage debut in "Madame Melville" alongside Irene Jacob later this month at the Vaudeville Theatre. Reuters caught up with the actor who made his name as a little boy, in the Hollywood blockbuster, "Home Alone".
Macaulay Culkin rocketed to stardom as a child actor when his films "Home Alone" (I and II) coined in millions around the world.
But in recent years his name has been more associated with family feuds and weddings than with acting.
Culkin decided to drop out of the acting arena for a while and went back to high school to finish his studies.
While there, he said he wanted to work out what career path he was going to pursue.
With the pressure off, he says he's been able to think clearly about what projects he wants to take on.
Culkin takes to the stage before an audience for the first time in many years on October 18th in "Madame Melville", which is written and directed by Richard Nelson.
Performing alongside French actress Irene Jacob ("Othello" and "The Double Life of Veronique") and American actress Madeleine Potter, ("An Ideal Husband" "The Golden Bowl"), Culkin's play is described as 'a rare rite of passage and passion".
"Madame Melville" concerns the cultural awakening and sensual initiation of a young American in Paris in 1966 who is guided by his 30-year old mentor and tutor, Madame Melville.
Alive with erotic tension and physical attraction, Madame Melville is also a sweet, memoir of an extraordinary relationship.
But what some potential theatre-goers might wish to know is does Culkin get his clothes off? Might they be disappointed? Culkin says:"I guess they will be disappointed but I guess we don't want that type of people going to the show - just kidding, everyone come to the play.
"I don't know, it's not overtly sexual this play it's not about - that it's not about seeing people naked or in their underwear or whatever, it's not about that so it's tough for me to answer whether they're going to be disappointed or not because it's not about that so I don't go to movies or shows just for that reason and I'd hope people are coming to be entertained and to go and see a wonderful piece of art."
Whatever the reason for going to see the show, Culkin's fellow actors believe audiences will be in for a treat and that he puts in a fabulous performance - by all accounts, it's a show not to be missed. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
