- Story Text: International stars and starlets showed up to the grand opening of the new Filmmuseum-Berlin on Tuesday.
After 17 years of planning , the new Berlin Filmmuseum finally opened its doors to the public on Wednesday (September 27).
The original idea was to build the museum in the rooms of a hotel bombed in World War 2, but it has now been set up in a more modern location - the Sony Centre in central Berlin.
Stars like Roman Polanski, Franka Potente, Volker Schloendorff and Maria Riva showed up for the grand opening.
The German government and the local Berlin senate have invested seven million Marks into the museum.
Photos, film excerpts, memorabilia and props from films are shown in 15 rooms. Three of those room are dedicated to German icon Marlene Dietrich, whose estate was bought by the Berlin estate in an auction in 1993.
The museum also includes an extensive film archive with approximately 12.500 films. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
