- Story Text: Some of the biggest names in Hollywood, old and new, have gathered in Beverly Hills to pay tribute to their industry's elderly. Kevin Spacey organised the event to raise money for the Motion Picture and Television Fund, an organisation that supports the former elite of show business in retirement. He was joined by the likes of George Clooney, Jack Lemmon, Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osment at the gala event.
The Motion Picture and Television Fund, an organisation that supports the former elite of show business in their golden years.
Veteran star Gregory Peck has been involved in raising money for the fund for nearly four decades.
"We, one time, staged a benefit with Princess Grace, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., in 1970, for the fund. And, we raised over $50 million dollars at that time," said the aging Hollywood hero.
The retirement home run by the Fund holds a special place in the heart of actress Frances Fisher.
"The person who got me into acting spent his last days in the home," said Fisher.
"It's important to give back and I think it's really important for younger people to know that such a thing as this home exists because you don't know what's going to happen when you're 65 unless you've saved your money really well."
Spacey, who grew up in California's San Fernando Valley, where the retirement home is located, has been involved with the place, in one way or another, since he was a young boy.
"I used to go there as a kid and visit the residence.
And, I remember singing Christmas carols to some pretty famous people back there, some residents who lived out their sunset years there," recalled Spacey.
"It's a place where our colleagues in 30 or 40 years, if they need medical attention to be taken care of, if their pensions have dried up, if their family members have passed on, this is this incredible place for them to go."
Grammy Award winner Jewel joined the cause performing for those gathered.
Other celebrities took to the stage to recall the stories of some of the home's famous and not-so-well-known residents. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
