- Story Text: Most people outside of Germany will remember him as the villain "Stromberg" in the James Bond movie "The Spy Who Loved Me". Brigitte Bardot christened him the 'Norman Wardrobe' because of his height and presence.
Curd Jurgens was arguably Germany's greatest post-war actor. The German Filmmuseum in Frankfurt has organized an exhibition in honour of his incredible career.
No other German actor has influenced Germany's post war film industry like Curd Jurgens.
To celebrate his life and career, the German film museum in Frankfurt organised an exhibition in collaboration with Jürgens' widow Margie.
The exhibition shows the career and flamboyant lifestyle of the Lothario that Brigitte Bardot christened the 'Norman Wardrobe' in reference to his height and presence.
Jürgens who died in 1982 in Vienna had many interests besides acting. A display of his paintings,musical recordings and writings can be seen at the exhibition.
Jürgens was born near Munich on the 13th of December 1915. His mother was French and he continued to maintain close ties France throughout his life.
In 1947, he became an Austrian citizen.
During his life, Jürgens married five times and was linked to some of the world's most beautiful women, one of them being German actress Romy Schneider.
Jurgens' fame spread across the Atlantic to Hollywood, when he starred in 'The Enemy Below' with Robert Mitchum and 'The Spy Who Loved Me' with Roger Moore.
