- Story Text: 'Meowy Christmas!' Step aside Johnny Mathis, Burl Ives and Bing Crosby: nine caroling cats led by 'Cheesepuff' crooning the Christmas classics are once again the craze. Is it Purrfect - or paw ? You decide! The Jingle Cats, and some furry special guests, are back in the news again, with their annual holiday video, which includes the nine felines performing the holiday songs " Oh Come All Ye Faithful," "Jingle Bells," "Hava Nagila," "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies" and "Silent Night."
The Jingle Cats are the brainchild of music producer Mike Spalla. Spalla explained that he conceived the idea when his cat Cheesepuff "meowed" in a studio sound booth where Spalla was recording an instrumental version of "Jingle Bells."
Cheesepuff's "meow" was in tune with the song, which gave Spalla the idea to have his cats "meow" to music.
Binky, Graymer, Petunia, Max, Twizzler, Sprikenz, Cheesepuff, Clarise and Cueball first clawed their way onto American music charts in 1993 when they released the compact disc "Meowy Christmas."
That release became the most requested holiday album for radio stations across the United States that year.
The following year, Jingle Cats Music released "Here Comes Santa Claws," another holiday song collection.
Following in the tradition of Jingle Cats, Spalla released Jingle Dogs and Jingle Babies.
While the babies and dogs have proved profitable, Spalla will always side with cats and the people who love them.
"They're in tune with cats. There is a certain kind of person that is in tune with a cat. They're thoughtful. The must be more intelligent or something," says the domestic pet impressario. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
