- Story Text: Well, it's not "Bob the Builder", but it's an attempt to hit the charts with something different. Some 80 German doctors have been busy swapping stethoscopes for microphones in a bid to top the charts AND do something useful. The singing doctors of the 'Del Moon Heartbeat Project' aim to raise money for diabetes with their single 'Hope in A Hopeless World'.
80 German doctors are hoping to hit the charts and raise money and awareness for their fight against diabetes.
Together with professional musicians, the German GPs have recorded their single "Hope in a Hopeless World", which started out as a pilot project but has attracted more and more supporters.
Klaus-Dieter Laengst, one of the brains behind the project explains "The aim of the foundation 'Diabetics with a heart condition' is to carry out research, educational work and prevention relating to hypertonic diabetics, and to contribute to an improved medical care for these high-risk patients."
Many of those involved in the project were amazed at how many doctors wanted to be a part of it.
"Originally, we started this project as a pilot, and due to the immense support from doctors, the doctors' association and even the media, it's gradually becoming a fixed project.
More and more doctors are enthusiastic about the project, they take part or ask whom to approach in order to be able to take part. And we or the foundation - also notice this when it comes to the funding that is provided via the doctors' association, because the foundation, of course, lives off the donations and contributions and the money made from the musical productions, but also off voluntary donations", says sponsor Robert Kamm.
With the help of professional coaching the doctors have learnt not only how to sing, but also how to perform for audiences.
"It was great fun and I have learned a lot from this. The scientific part is also very good. This mixture of science and fun, of enjoying the singing and at the same time doing something for a good cause - I think that works out really well" says Jutta Budweg, a GP from Hannover.
