- Story Text: Two years after their first feature film became a runaway blockbuster, the world's most famous bunch of talking babies celebrated the World premiere of their second movie "Rugrats in Paris" on Sunday, (November 5) in Hollywood.
"Rugrats in Paris" features the familiar cast of characters from the popular and long-running television series which airs in the United States on the Nickelodeon cable channel.
They include Tommy Pickles, the leader of an intrepid band of adventurous talking babies, Chuckie Finster, his worrywart best friend, Phil and Lil, the twins who live next door, and Angelica Pickles, Tommy's cousin and a tyrannical three year old.
New characters include the villainous manager of a Parisian theme park, Coco La Bouche, voiced by Oscar winner Susan Sarandon, her flamboyant and pretentious assistant, Jean-Claude, voiced by John Lithgow, and Lulu Pickles, the new adult member of the clan voiced by Debbie Reynolds.
The voice talents that carry over from the TV series as well as the first film include Cheryl Chase, E.G. Daily, Christine Cavanaugh and Kath Soucie.
The brains behind the babies are producer/creators Arlene Klasky and Gabor Csupo, who together formed Klasky Csupo, Inc.
in 1981 with a mission of creating intelligent and humorous animation that would appeal to both children and adults.
Since then, "The Rugrats" have gone on to win three Emmy Awards and grown into a billion dollar franchise property for Nickelodeon. The first feature film grossed more than 100 million dollars in the United States alone.
The biggest name addition to "Rugrats in Paris" is Susan Sarandon. Although she's done only limited animation voice work over the years, she was particularly excited to work with the Rugrats team because she thought it would earn her big points with her children.
"Rugrats in Paris" opens in theaters throughout the United States on Friday, November 17.
