- Story Text: The biggest event in the music calendar is almost here, and the MTV Europe music awards have attracted the cream of the music world to Sweden. With the most impressive line-up of performers ever and a host of prestigious gongs to be dished out to the lucky winners - this year's show promises to be a night to remember. Ronan Keating, Kylie Minogue and even Jennifer Lopez are all in attendance in Stockholm.
Rehearsals got off to a slow start on Wednesday (November 15) due to the delayed arrival of Ronan Keating.
After missing his flight, and then running into bad weather, the Boyzone star had to rush straight to The Globe to kick off proceedings with a run through of his solo performance.
The Irish heartthrob is something of an old hand at this event, not only has he performed with the rest of his band, he is also the only person to have hosted the awards twice, in Rotterdam in 1997, and last year in his home town of Dublin - this year he is also niminated for Best Male.
"I been here for the last five years, pretty cool." But does he still get the same buzz? "More now than ever, because I performing for the first time really, well I performed back in '96 with Boyzone and Peter Andre, but this for me, on my own, it's a massive step for me, I am chuffed to be here, really chuffed." says Keating.
MTV Europe Music Awards is bigger than ever, with a top-notch list of perfomers including Keating, Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams, Moby and Jennifer Lopez to name a few. Keating thinks that MTV has an appeal all of its own: "It's MTV, it's music television, it's in every country all around the world, it's been around, now that's an institution, it's been around for ever, as long as I can remember, it's fantastic, what can I say, every day you turn on and there it is, it's on your box, the videos that you love to watch, everyone wants to be part of it, that's what it is."
Another new arrival in town is diminutive Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue - she'll be performing alongside Robbie Williams who is appearing despite having been diagnosed with Gastroenteritis and exhaustion. The duo are tipped to have one of the hottest shows of the night and Kylie clearly enjoys working with the fomer Take That star.
"So much fun, excellent, the first tine we did the song together was on Top of the Pops in London, and we didn't really plan anything, and just made it up as we went along, and it was just so easy, Sorry I can't even speak straight, I am very jet-lagged, excuse me, we don't really need to speak and make any decisions about what we are doing to do, it just happens and it's different every time, and it really the pressure is taken off because we can work off each other, it's great."
Although thousands of fans will be looking forward to Miss Minogue's turn, Kylie herself intends checking out some of the other acts.
"Madonna, Jennifer, I am really interested to see what they are going to do, and I think I can get in with my tag."
As the day's rehersals drew to a close, dance guru Moby proved that his laid-back dance grooves translate well to a huge arena as he prepared for his performance. He is also in the running for three awards, Best Video for Natural Blues, Best Album for Play and Best DAnce.
But one of the most important elements of the MTV Europe Music Awards is the fans - and they certainly got a treat as Jennifer Lopez, Kylie and this years host Wyclef Jean all took time out to sign autographs.
