- Story Text: For over fifty years, Holiday on Ice has been criss-crossing the globe bringing the colour and excitement of its shows to millions of people. Along the way it has broken many records, including the most expensive live show on earth (each show costs an estimated 4.5 million dollars to stage) and the most visited show on earth (over 300 million people have seen one of its productions.) Prominent fans down the years have included Elvis Presley and the former leader of the Soviet Union, Nikita Krushchev. There are currently three shows on tour, Colours of Dance, Xotika and In Concert, which is touring in Germany until the beginning of March.
Holiday On Ice has become reknowned the world over for it's vibrant shows that attract audiences from every age group.'In Concert' is one of three shows currently on tour, and the first to use live music only to entertain the fans.
"It does appeal to so many people in so many different ways; not just the skating. You have the skating aspect, the technical aspect, you have the fantastic costumes, the light displays, the music; it goes to so many different places, it can reach so many people in different ways. You don't have to be a skating olympic fan to enjoy Holiday On Ice, you can just enjoy it for the pure spectacle of it."
The company, which began life back in 1943 has seen over 300 million guests passing through it's doors, some of them more famous than others.
"It has been known that Elvis Presley was a big fan of Holiday on Ice; he used to visit actually in Frankfurt, which is a city that we are going to be touring on this year. It's quite exciting to know we had such a famous fan at one point. It's good to know."
Indded it is difficult to find someone who either hasn't seen one of the shows themselves, or has someone in their family that hasn't seen one.
"Holiday on Ice has been around over fifty years. And that alone makes it something special. Everyone knows about it, there's hardly anyone who hasn't seen it at least once with grandparents or parents or sisters. It's an experience that brings together music and ice dancing."
Not suprising when you consider that in 57 years the company has staged more than 75,000 performances in 620 cities in over 80 different countries. Each season the shows attracts over 4.5 million visitors, who are entertained by over three hundred dancers and staff. Amazing facts from an amazing show! ---ENDS--- - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
