- Story Text: The mighty marketing pros at the Walt Disney Corporation hope they have come up with another Martin Lawrence/Will Smith caliber pairing with the stars of their new film, "Double Take". It features the up and coming talents of Orlando Jones and Eddie Griffin.
Although they've had smaller roles in previous films, both Jones and Griffin are best known for their television work. Griffin stars in the hit UPN sitcom "Malcolm and Eddie"
while Jones made a name for himself in the Fox late night sketch comedy series "Mad TV."
In "Double Take," they play a pair of mismatched fugitives who are forced to trust one another when one is framed for laundering millions for a Mexican drug cartel. While Jones is a straight-laced, Harvard-educated professional, Griffin is a fast-talking, low-life petty thief. But in order to evade the authorities and find the true culprits, they must switch identities and hit the road.
Accompanied by a small fluffy white dog, the pair set off for Mexico by train, stolen car, and whatever means of transportation they can get their hands on. Along the way, they meet up with all sorts of complications, switched identities and shifting loyalties.
If the premise sounds like 1988's buddy comedy "Midnight Run" with Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin, it's no coincidence. The writer of that film, George Gallo, also wrote "Double Take," and made it his feature film directorial debut.
Along with any action movie come stunts, in this case, many of which were performed by the actors themselves. In one scene, Griffin's character is thrown out of a train going 30 miles per hour. Although the stunt was supposed to be performed by a stunt double, the night of the shoot, Griffin surprised everyone by doing it himself.
Also in the cast is Garcelle Beauvais, who currently stars on the WB Network's series "The Jamie Foxx Show." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
